Kaasboerderij Janmaat

Cheese farm

On the outskirts of the picturesque town of Woerden, nestled in the heart of The Netherlands, lies Kaasboerderij Janmaat. Hidden among vast meadows at Barwoutswaarder 57, about 300 meters from the main road, this farm has been a place of craftsmanship, tradition, and passion for generations. Cor and Ria Janmaat run this diverse and thriving business with dedication, combining dairy farming, pig farming, and their very own cheese production. Every day, around 70 cows are milked, and their fresh milk is directly processed into genuine farm cheese—pure, flavorful, and free from unnecessary additives.

Cheese with character

What makes Kaasboerderij Janmaat special is their unwavering commitment to traditional cheese-making. Their cheese is made from raw, unpasteurized milk, preserving its rich, full flavor. You can truly taste the difference. No artificial colors or preservatives—just pure, natural cheese. The selection is impressive, ranging from classic farm cheese to unique variations infused with cumin, fenugreek, paprika, and garden herbs. Each cheese is carefully crafted with love and attention. Visitors in spring or summer can enjoy their famous graskaas—a soft, creamy cheese made from the milk of cows that have just started grazing on fresh grass again. The September graskaas is perfect for aging into a beautifully matured cheese.

At Kaasboerderij Janmaat, animal welfare is a top priority. The cows graze outdoors as much as possible and are raised with sustainability and environmental care in mind. This responsible approach to farming is reflected in the quality of their products—honest, artisanal, and locally produced.

Craftsmanship passed down through generations

Cor took over the farm from his parents and expanded the business together with his wife, Ria. Ria specialized in cheese-making, following various courses to perfect her craft. Together, they form a strong team that seamlessly blends tradition and innovation.Their passion and expertise have not gone unnoticed. Every year, they participate in regional cheese competitions, and at one point, Kaasboerderij Janmaat was recognized as one of the top five farm cheese producers in The Netherlands.
